Parents of children with ADHD completed an 8-week program called the Group Triple P Positive Parenting Program via telehealth.  This intervention was found to improve child behavior and decrease parent distress, with effect sizes similar to those found in traditional applications of this treatment.  This study shows that telehealth is an effective alternative to traditional modes of parental training for families of children with ADHD.

Parent training in behavior management is a form of behavior therapy that equips parents with skills and strategies to help their child with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) manage problem behaviors. It is often the recommended first-line treatment for children under 6 years of age.

The goal of behavior therapy for ADHD is to reinforce positive behaviors and habits while eliminating negative ones. For children under 6, therapists help the child learn replacement behaviors and provide parent training in behavior management. For children 6 and older, behavior therapies include parent training, classroom behavioral interventions, and organizational skill training.

Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) has been tentatively shown to decrease symptom severity in adolescents who are on ADHD medication.  When used for ADHD specifically, this therapy consists of education about ADHD and skills training in areas such as organization and planning, distraction control, procrastination mitigation, and adaptive thinking.

Studies have found that adults with ADHD naturally exhibit less mindfulness than adults without ADHD. The findings also suggested that mindfulness training may benefit ADHD individuals by improving attention.
