Many of children with disabilities are already struggling financially even with help from Medicaid. So, stopping these services provided by Medicaid would force them to work less to take care of their children as well as pay for the expensive disability services for their children with money from their own pockets. 25% of parents of children with special needs had to either work less hours or stop working all together.

States such as Alabama already have difficulties funding people with disabilities through Medicaid and already limit access to services for disabled people. They spend approximately ten thousand dollars per person each year, compared to California which spends double that amount. These states would be affected most by Medicaid cuts.

A thirty six year old with Down Syndrome from Georgia named Evan Nodvin testified against these Medicaid cuts stating that these cuts would not allow him to live his same independent lifestyle, and they would also have a negative impact on the services that are provided to him by Medicaid.

An example of people who would be specifically affected by these Medicaid cuts are the Rankin family of Missouri. Nathaniel Rankin who was four years old at the time of the article was born with birth defects, and Medicaid is what helps his family provide him with medical supplies, pay for surgery and therapy. However, with the Medicaid cuts, these services will stop being provided.
