Pareto Distribution

The Pareto distribution is a power-law probability distribution that describes the phenomenon where a large portion of effects or resources is held by a small fraction of the population or causes. Mathematically, it is characterized by a shape parameter (alpha), which determines the degree of inequality. Unlike a normal distribution, the Pareto distribution is highly skewed and has a 'heavy tail,' meaning that extreme events or values are more likely to occur. It provides the mathematical framework for understanding phenomena like wealth distribution as described by Pareto's Law.
