Partial Derivative Notation

There are several equivalent mathematical notations used to represent the partial derivative of a multivariate function y=f(x1,x2,,xn)y = f(x_1, x_2, \ldots, x_n) with respect to its iextrmthi^{ extrm{th}} parameter, xix_i. Common conventions include fractional forms like yxi\frac{\partial y}{\partial x_i} and fxi\frac{\partial f}{\partial x_i}, subscripted differential operators such as xif\partial_{x_i} f, if\partial_i f, DifD_i f, and DxifD_{x_i} f, as well as subscripted function names like fxif_{x_i} and fif_i.
