Football is an interesting sport because there's numerous coaches and a lot of stoppages allowing analytics to play an important part in every facet of the game. Fantasy football has popularized the advanced metrics side of the NFL but there's useful analytics that expand beyond just player focused models. Much like soccer, there's an element of randomness that has to be factored in because of how sporadic and important one score can be so creating accurate models is a difficult process.

American Football Analytics

Metric that gives the number of yards per carry belonging to the offensive line. Most people focus on the ball carriers statistic but the big men play an arguably more important role in the run.

Adjusted Line Yards

Accounts for the total yards per pass attempt of a quarterback and awarding bonuses for touchdowns and penalties for interceptions. The formula is (pass yards + 20*(pass TD) - 45*(interceptions thrown) - sack yards) / (passing attempts + sacks).

Adjusted Net Yards Per Pass Attempt

Metric which gives sacks plus intentional grounding penalties per pass attempt. Adjusted for down, distance, and opponent.

Adjusted Sack Rate

Metric that measures how difficult it is to tackle a runner with the football. The formula is (Missed Tackles Forced) / (Designed Run Attempts + Receptions) * (Yards After Contact Per Attempt * 100).

Elusive Rating

A metric that is used in most sports and important for sports betting models. Represents the expected number of points to be scored by a team given the down, distance, field position, and time remaining.

Expected Points

Yards accumulated by a receiver after the catch.

Yards After Catch

A firm's market share represents its proportion of the total sales within a specific market. It can be calculated based on the firm's share of the total revenue generated or its share of the total quantity of goods sold in that market.
