Concept
Perverse Downstream Consequences of Debunking - Variables of Interest
- Quality of content users shared measured by worthiness scores of 60 news domains (20 fake news, 20 hyperpartisan, 20 mainstream) determined by fact-checkers
- Partisan slant of shared content defined as the difference between each tweet’s slant score and political neutrality of the domain the link came from
- Language toxicity of tweets and retweets after corrections monitored using Google Jigsaw Perspective API (0 lowest, 1 highest toxicity)
- Even tweets without links to the 60 websites were given toxicity scores
