Phases of Global Poverty Reduction (1820-2018)

The historical trend of global poverty reduction can be divided into distinct phases. The first phase, from 1820 until the mid-20th century, was marked by a persistently high poverty rate with a very slow pace of decline. The second phase, beginning after 1950 and accelerating significantly from the 1980s onward, was characterized by a rapid and unprecedented decrease in the global extreme poverty rate.
