Light is absorbed in this photosystem. The chlorophyll sits below oxygen and hydrogen in regards to the reduction potential tower. When it it oxidized, it extracts electrons from water, forming oxygen. ATP is also synthesized here.

Noncyclic Photophosphorylation:
Electrons from water are removed from the system. There are two photosystems (PSII and PSI) that are involved in this process before the electron is placed on the NADPH. This process requires light and creates ATP as a result.

Photosystem II

Light absorption also occurs here. This absorption of light excites the electrons and the electrons eventually ends up on NADPH. When NADP+ receives this electron, NADPH is produced.
