DCVMN members are exploring several vaccine methods including: Both Inactivated and Live attenuated virus, DNA and RNA, viral vectors with capacity to replicate as well as non-replicating vectors, and “recombinant protein sub-unit or virus-like particles.”

One member of DCVMN has been identified as testing the hypothesis of offering protection from the virus through the method of Bacille Calmette-Guérin (BCG) immune modulation. Testing is currently in clinical trials, and VPM1002, a recombinant BCG vaccine, is in phase 3.
