Autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) is the most common of all the inherited kidney disorders. ADPKD has equal representation in all ethnic groups and has been reported all across the globe. It accounts for approximately 5% of all end-stage renal disease cases in the US.

Various polycystic/ cystic kidney conditions can occur and are painful, chronic conditions that are inherited. The cysts in such diseases are formed due to irregular function of the cilium in epithelial cells.
