Positive and Negative Slopes
The sign of a line's slope reveals which direction the line tilts when read from left to right:
- A line with a positive slope rises as it moves from left to right. Moving along such a line, the y-values increase.
- A line with a negative slope falls as it moves from left to right. Moving along such a line, the y-values decrease.
This visual rule provides a quick way to classify a line's slope without calculation: if the line goes uphill (left to right), its slope is positive; if it goes downhill, its slope is negative.

You are an inventory manager reviewing a linear graph that tracks the depletion of warehouse stock over a month. The line on the graph falls from left to right. Based on the definition of slope, what does this downward direction indicate about the numerical value of the slope?
A site surveyor is documenting the grade of a plot of land for a new warehouse. Match each mathematical term used in the slope formula with its correct physical description.
In a professional graph showing the increase in production costs over time, the slope is defined as the ratio of the vertical change (the rise) to the horizontal change, which is known as the ____.
A logistics coordinator is calculating the slope of a ramp in a shipping hub. In the standard formula for slope, the value is determined by dividing the horizontal change (run) by the vertical change (rise).
Defining Slope in Facility Management
A workplace safety officer is verifying that a new accessibility ramp meets building codes by determining its slope (). Arrange the following steps in the correct order to define and calculate the slope based on the standard mathematical formula.

Defining and Interpreting Slope in Professional Data Reports
A site supervisor is reviewing the blueprints for a new warehouse. The documentation describes the slope of the main loading ramp as a single numerical value. According to the standard mathematical definition of slope, what two characteristics of the ramp does this value measure?
A logistics supervisor is reviewing a performance report that includes a linear trend graph of delivery speeds. The report identifies the slope of the trend line using the standard mathematical notation, 'm'. According to the definition of slope, what two characteristics of the delivery trend does this 'm' value measure?

A project manager is reviewing a chart that tracks the remaining budget for a construction project. If the line on the chart falls as it moves from left to right, which term describes the slope of that line?
A business analyst is categorizing trend lines on a quarterly revenue report. Match each slope type to the correct visual description of how the line moves across the graph from left to right.
When a financial analyst observes a trend line on a revenue chart that rises as it moves from left to right, the analyst identifies the slope of that line as ____.
A quality control manager is reviewing a graph that tracks 'Product Defects' over the last month. If the trend line on the graph falls as it moves from left to right, indicating that defects are decreasing, the slope of that line is positive.

A data analyst is reviewing a chart that tracks 'Average Employee Tenure' at a company over several years. If the analyst identifies that the trend line on the chart has a positive slope, what does this indicate about the tenure values as the chart is read from left to right?
A customer service lead is reviewing a performance graph showing 'Average Wait Times' over the last month. If the lead identifies that the trend line has a negative slope, which of the following accurately describes the visual movement of the line and the change in wait times as the graph is read from left to right?
