Positive Hypothesis

An effective hypothesis must make a positive statement, predicting the existence of a specific relationship or effect rather than asserting its absence. Because the scientific method operates under the default assumption that an effect does not exist until empirical evidence demonstrates otherwise, researchers design studies to actively seek evidence of its presence. Consequently, framing a hypothesis to prove a negative is avoided, a practice fundamentally rooted in statistical theory.
