Evidence shows that damage specific to the frontal region of the brain during a stroke might result in certain forms of apraxia that harm/ inhibit one's ability to gesture and understand gestures.

Individuals with post-stroke aphasia often struggle with apraxia. Apraxia is a disruption of motor functions or a loss of physical control and accuracy that may inhibit or randomize movements. This is sometimes treated with physic al therapy and is a common source of loss of employment or capability associated with post-stroke aphasiacs entering disability programs.

Redefining Recovery from Aphasia

Post-Stroke Aphasia is tested for in a  variety of ways- by assessing communicative transitive gestures such as "waving like a queen" or "saluting like a soldier", by a patient's ability to follow a steady line, or by regular tapping.
