Postponability of Investment as a Cause of Spending Clusters

Unlike essential consumption expenditures which are difficult to delay, investment projects can often be postponed. This flexibility allows firms to time their investments based on perceived opportunities, which contributes to periods of high investment activity followed by periods of low activity, creating clusters of spending.
