Potential Impact of Competition on User Data Compensation

In markets dominated by a few platforms, firms may generate revenue from user data without directly paying the users who create it. The lack of competition could be the reason for this arrangement. It is hypothesized that if these platforms faced more significant competition, they might be compelled to start compensating users for their data to attract and retain them.
