Prescribers of Psychotropic Medications
Typically, psychotropic medications are prescribed by medical doctors, a category that includes psychiatrists. However, there are exceptions; for instance, in the U.S. states of Louisiana and New Mexico, psychologists with appropriate training are also authorized to prescribe certain types of these drugs.
