Concept
Prevalence of low-credibility information on twitter during the covid-19 outbreak data analysis
Prevalence of low-credibility information
- Low-credibility information is not extremely common on Twitter compared to information taken from credible sources such as the NYT or CDC website
Role of social bots
- Bots on social media spread low-credibility information rapidly
- Bots are generally more active in posting and sharing content on social media
- Tweets re-tweeted by bots are more likely to be re-tweeted by other bots
- However, findings show that bots may also be engaging in dissemination of useful and factual information
