Problems with Direct Content Filtering as a Misinformation Regulation Approach
Gary and Soltani argue that direct content filtering (platforms removing or blocking specific posts) raises the most direct First Amendment concerns among content-based regulation approaches. Because private platforms can legally remove content, they hold almost limitless power to shape online speech, and can use that power to promote voices that are financially beneficial to them while suppressing others.
