Short Answer

Proposing an Efficient Reallocation

An economy produces two goods: 'widgets' and 'gidgets'. At the current production level, the Marginal Rate of Transformation (MRT) is 3, meaning that society must give up producing 3 gidgets to produce one additional widget. For the typical consumer, the Marginal Rate of Substitution (MRS) is 5, meaning they are personally willing to trade 5 gidgets for one additional widget. Is the current allocation of resources efficient? Justify your answer and propose a specific change in production (i.e., more of which good and less of the other) that would represent a potential improvement.
