This is the perception and characteristics any given individual has of a stereotypical person of the group they are within. The greater the individual sees themself as similar to or equal to this prototype, the greater their group identity is.

The degree to which the individual within a group defines themselves in relation to the representation they cognitively have for the group they are within. If this is similar to the group, this results in greater cohesion to their group and the other individuals within it. This also increases a sense of belongingness and connection to others.
