From 1991 to 1999 there was a section in each Vital Signs publication titled "Public Education and Policy." This section included position statements from the NBWHP along with policy briefs and legislative updates around policy topics related to Black women's holistic health. The aim of this information was to let individuals know what is happening on local, state and federal levels while also empowering members to do something in response.

University of Wisconsin - Madison

In the 1990s the NBWHP established a Public Policy and Public Education Office in Washington, D.C. that endeavored on legislative and lobbying work around broadening the National Reproductive Health agenda and promoting other public policies that focused on increasing health access to Black women and communities.

Early on the NBWHP established the Self-Help Developers Task Force meeting, which alongside annual conferences, retreats and leadership institutes was supposed to bring together members and local leaders to learn the principles of grassroots organizing and coalition development, identify trends between local chapters, discuss national policy issues, and cultivate local leadership.
