Public mental health responses and community outreach

Although past instances of outbreaks for SARS have shown that most adverse psychological consequences of physical distancing and quarantine resolved without the need for specialized mental health care, the problems arising from stress related to recession and containment strategies may persist. The public health response to COVID-19 should not only provide clear, concise, and accurate information about quarantine and infection rates to reduce uncertainty, but also aim to increase mental health literacy through a multiagency collaboration among housing, education, and employment services, with support from the voluntary and mental health sectors
