While national policies promoting employment of people with disabilities exist, they are not fully enforced. Available employment opportunities are limited. Often, physical accessibility is an issue and employees with disabilities may not get equal rights and privileges compared to other employees.

It is assumed that each hour of work would earn the average wage rate of 1.86 US dollars per person, as of 2006. This would mean that about $891 million U.S. is lost in total each year.
