Among these, nineteen used recovery and chronicity and found that on average, 60% recovered, 30% showed a chronic course, and 10% developed a different eating disorder. A different set of eight studies included recovery and improvement as their two levels and found that on average,  42% recovered and 41% showed improvement.

Several metanalyses with different classifications of recovery showed slightly differing results, although all generally showed that many people with bulimia nervosa did not recover fully.
