Refining an Urban Planning Model

An urban planner is developing a model to determine the optimal location for a new public library. The goal is to maximize community access and usage. The initial model includes the following variables:

  1. Population density of surrounding neighborhoods.
  2. Proximity to public transportation stops.
  3. Local zoning regulations.
  4. Average household income in the area.
  5. Proximity to existing schools and community centers.
  6. The geological soil composition of potential sites.
  7. The average number of sunny days per year for each potential site.

A colleague suggests the model is too complex and that its predictive power is being obscured by irrelevant details. Applying the principle that a model's power often comes from what it leaves out, identify TWO variables from the list that are least relevant to the model's stated goal. For each variable you choose, provide a brief justification for its exclusion, explaining how removing it helps to focus on the most important factors.
