An intelligent tutoring system adapts instruction by estimating a student's current knowledge, predicting whether the student can answer a particular question correctly, and selecting subsequent questions accordingly. After each response, the system updates its estimate of the student's knowledge. Question selection may also account for factors such as the time needed to learn the material and the manner in which it is presented.
