The results of Vansteenkiste, Simons, Lens, Sheldon, and Deci's (2004) study on the effects of goal content and motivation on the academic performance of participants on an ecological reading activity have been replicated on numerous demographics and with different subject material numerous times since. The results have been replicated using different:

• intrinsic goals (e.g. personal growth and health)
• extrinsic goals (e.g. physical attractiveness)
• learning materials (e.g. business communications, physical exercise)
• age groups (e.g. 5th-6th graders, 11th-12th graders, college students)
