Residential Electrical Service Categories

Residential electrical work can be organized into five main service groups that help a contractor design and manage a service lineup. Diagnostic and troubleshooting includes fault finding, circuit tracing, and locating the cause of breaker trips. Panel and service work covers main panel replacements, service upgrades, and subpanel installations. Branch-circuit work includes lighting, receptacles, dedicated runs, and switch changes. Specialty installations includes EV charging equipment, standby generators, transfer equipment, and surge protection. Maintenance agreements include routine inspections, testing, and preventive service visits. Using these categories helps the contractor spot missing offerings, assign the right technician skills, and set pricing for each type of work.
