Responses to a Short-Term Cash Shortfall

When a weekly forecast shows that planned outflows are greater than inflows, the contractor can respond in several ways. The preferred first move is usually to bring cash in sooner, such as sending an invoice immediately or following up on a payment that is already owed. Another option is to postpone a nonessential purchase that is not tied to an active job deadline. If needed, the contractor can also use a line of credit as a temporary bridge or ask a supplier for a brief extension on a payment. Choosing the lowest-cost fix first helps preserve borrowing capacity and keeps supplier relationships in better shape for real emergencies.
