Revenue vs. Profitability

A company announces that it has achieved its highest-ever annual sales revenue. A potential investor, however, is concerned that the company might not actually be profitable. Explain, using the relationship between profit, revenue, and costs, how it is possible for a company with very high revenue to be unprofitable.
