- Unknown due to applicant concealment on military precession screening 
- Most psychiatric disorders among military members have an onset before their enlistment 
- Therefore, service members with BPD entered the military with BPD and/or other comorbid disorders


Prevalence of BPD in the Military

Suicidal soldiers diagnosed who meet more diagnostic criteria for BPD are more likely to engage in self injurious behaviors such as nonsuicidal self-injury and attempted suicide in comparison to suicidal soldiers who meet fewer criteria for BPD.
