Facial pressure ulcers can lead to various complications. The weight of the face is primarily held up by the chin and the forehead; thus, prolonged tissue loading for those areas could lead to muscle flaccidity and blood loss during procedures. Additionally, due to the lack of facial muscle mass, there is little blood supply to the skin and subcutaneous facial tissue. Thus, these injuries may result in deep tissue damage.
