Gene silencing can be done using RNAi techniques.By making RNA antisense strands that are semi complementary or perfectly complementary to mRNA transcripts, genes can be silenced for genetic engineering techniques.

RNA interference in a regulatory mechanism in cells where antisense RNAs interact with mRNA transcripts to make double stranded RNA. Double stranded RNA cannot be translated into proteins. Cells can use this protect themselves from viral infections.
