Role of Children in COVID-19 Transmission in Iceland
As of April 4, 2020, in a study targeting people at high risk for infection including people who were symptomatic, traveled to high-risk countries or were in contact with infected people, 1221 of 9199 (13.3%) people recruited for targeted testing were tested positive for SARS-CoV-2. 87 of 10,797 (0.8%) recruited through open invitation were tested positive as well as 13 of 2283 (0.6%) people from the random-population screening. A total of 6% of Iceland's population was screened. In the population screening, no child received a positive test result compared to 0.8% (children over the age of 10) from the open invitation testing. In the targeted testing, it was also found that only 6.7% of children under 10 years of age were tested positive.
