Schizophrenia is seen as the highlight of why people should get lobotomies. This study detailed how despite schizophrenia being seen as the most “untreatable” illness, they did equally as well post-lobotomy. Schizophrenia patients appeared to have the same results as patients with other mental health disorders. 75% of schizophrenia patients were working and 38% were in high caliber jobs.

Researchers studied 133 patients who had lobotomies done and followed them over the years to see how they were doing after the procedure. These patients received the lobotomy between the years of 1948-1952 and were followed up with in 1962-1963. The patients got a lobotomy for the following reasons. 17 had passed away, leaving only 116 to follow up on.
