- Disruption to vision
- Patients will respond to visual stimuli, without being consciously aware of them
- For example: patient is completely blind, but can walk around obstacles placed in his way
- Patients cannot articulate why they responded to the visual stimuli because it did not happen on a conscious level.

Blindsight

- A blindspot in the visual field
- Does not manifest as darkness in that spot, rather nothing is perceived there
- Visual cues are not consciously perceived, but can experience "blindsight"

- The retina projects its information in a map-like manner
- The information stays this way as it passes through different regions of the brain
- Because of this, deficits in visual perception can be determined based on where damage is in the visual pathway or the brain
    - Scotomas are these regions of blindness
