Self conscious emotions

Self-awareness. Thinking about oneself, having a concept of oneself. Often involves the mirror test for animals that aims to see if they recognize themselves in a mirror.

Representations are included in access consciousness if they are available for use in (rational/reasoning) actions such as: perceptual categorization, reasoning, planning, evaluation of alternatives, decision making, voluntary direction of attention, memory, or reporting.

Monitoring Consciousness

1st order awareness. It is experience. Nagel (1974) used the phrase "what it is like" to point to the meaning behind the phenomenon. John Searle described it as the subjective states of sentience or awareness.
