As the sense-making model to information behavior/needs is built on four elements:

• Situation
• Gap
• Bridge
• Outcome

Some researchers have abandoned the use of the triangle, and instead have moved towards illustrating the theory using a bridge-like diagram that shows the gap that arises between the situation and the outcome, and how it is fulfilled through the bridge of information.
