Serial Laboratory Testing for SARS-CoV-2 Infection Among Incarcerated and Detained Persons in a Correctional and Detention Facility — Louisiana, April–May 2020: Methods

Personal health information was collected from people exposed to the 5 affected dormitories. Symptom assessments and serial SARS-CoV-2 testing were conducted on May 7, May 11, and May 21. Nasopharyngeal swabs were tested using RT-PCR and results were received within 24 hours. Individuals with positive results were moved to medical isolation while those with negative results remained in quarantined dormitories. Individuals who tested negative on May 7 were retested on May 11 and individuals who tested negative on May 11 were retested on May 21, the final day of the quarantine period. Attack rates were stratified by the 5 dormitories based on May 7.
