Women are more at risk for acute stress disorder than men. One reason is that woman are greater at risk to being exposed to traumatic events such as rape, interpersonal violence, or childhood trauma, such as sexual abuse. Additionally, there is a sex-linked neurological difference between men and women and their response to stress.
