Shabestari's Concept of Knowing Unity through Self-Annihilation in Golshan-e Raz

In Section 25 of Golshan-e Raz, Mahmud Shabestari answers the question of how one becomes aware of the secret of divine unity. He explains that true mystical knowledge (gnosis) is only achieved through the complete annihilation of the individual ego (fana). Shabestari uses the metaphor of sweeping the 'house of the heart' clean of all worldly attachments and the illusion of separate existence. He emphasizes that the Divine Beloved can only enter and manifest His beauty when the seeker's 'I' has completely departed, stating: 'When you go out, He comes in'.
