The ineffectiveness of fact-checking interventions to reduce fake news sharing for low conscientiousness conservatives along with related motivating factors of a desire to cause chaos and news concordance indicate that low consciousness conservatives intentionally share fake news. These findings suggest that fact-checking interventions may be ineffective in deterring low consciousness conservatives from sharing fake news.

Inadequacy of Fact-Checking Interventions on Fake News Sharing

In fake news sharing related to political ideology, a strong disinclination to share news discordant with their political ideology was found rather than an inclination to share news concordant with their political ideology.

Republicans and Independents have been found to be more likely to share fake news in comparison to Democrats. Additionally, conservative political ideologies have been positively associated with sharing fake news.
