Signs and Symptoms of Leishmaniasis

Leishmaniasis can take one of three forms, each of which cause different symptoms:

  • Cutaneous- formation of sores or ulcers at the site of the insect bite
  • Visceral- enlargement of the lymph nodes, liver, spleen, and bone marrow
  • Mucosal- sores in mucous membranes of the mouth, nares, or pharynx
