Concept
Social Media COVID-19 Misinformation Interventions Viewed Positively, But Have Limited Impact Results
- Social media interventions are not as effective as other strategies used to address and discredit misinformation
- Most participants (39.6%) relied on web search when seeking accurate information, and only 4.2% of the participants said the misinformation intervention was the only resource they used to confirm the false information
- Interventions specific to posts, such as labeling posts as containing “False Information,” were more effective than general banners warning users of misinformation
- Participants generally had positive to neutral sentiments towards social media misinformation intervention
- 35.3% of the participants corrected misinformation while 54.62% did nothing
