Social Media Presentations of Disability and Suffering
It is really interesting how this presentation and pushback to it of disability as suffering doesn't happen just in more formal media (e.g. newspapers or advertisement campaigns) but also on social media. As someone with multiple chronic illnesses I have seen this tension on social media platforms between people discussing pain, fatigue, and other symptoms of disability with critiques of how discussing that experience rather than being wholly positive about having a disability is feeding into a narrative of disability as something that needs to be eradicated.
