One way to increase uptake of influenza vaccine among high-risk insured individuals is to train healthcare practitioners to enhance their sensitivity and eliminate bias.

The findings from this study show that increasing access to health care is not sufficient to significantly increase vaccine coverage because many adults who were insured and high-risk were not vaccinated (42.5%). However, access to care is still an important factor for vaccination uptake. Therefore, ways to provide free or low-cost influenza vaccinations can help increase vaccination uptake among uninsured individuals (especially those at high-risk) until barriers to healthcare access are fully addressed.
