Heir to the Empire is a 1991 science fiction/fantasy novel by Timothy Zahn. Book 1 of what came to be known as the Thrawn Trilogy, It was the first authorized Star Wars project to continue the story after the events of Return of the Jedi. It played a significant role in reviving public interest in the Star Wars franchise, which had at that point begun to wane.
