Stroop effect

An example of when task-irrelevant stimuli are difficult to ignore. It occurs when you are tasked with saying the color of different words when the words are also colored. For example, the word blue might be colored red, or the word yellow might be colored green. The conflict between the word and its coloration causes difficulty when determining the color.
