Study of False Beliefs and Confabulation’s Lasting Effects: Limitations and Possibilities for Future Research
The article suggests that future research should try to test the limits of how far political attitudes can be shifted since the manipulations in this study were considered to be more minor. Additionally, follow-up sessions could be extended over a longer period of time to better observe the long term effects of the attitude change. Furthermore, future study designs should try to reinforce the false beliefs over a period of time and possibly even provide participants with arguments to support their confabulations for the false beliefs. Finally, future research should also test a broader belief spectrum for participants and use a participant group that better represents the general population.
