Study on Gender-Specific Social Support and Blood Pressure in Females

An experimental study involving 112 female participants found a gender-specific effect of social support on cardiovascular response to stress. During a stressful mental arithmetic task, participants showed lower blood pressure when supported by a male friend compared to a stranger. This effect was not observed when the friend was female, with researchers suggesting that females may feel more evaluated and less supported by other women whose opinions they value.
